Nordic Woodworks

Fine Furniture - Cabinetry - Millwork

Elegance results from the balancing of simplicity and complexity. When this principle is combined with superb craftmanship and timeless design, an enduring legacy is created. As an artistic woodworker, I strive to achieve these values in every aspect of a project. Each piece possesses a clarity of purpose and function which speaks to the efficiency of its design. Clean lines and clear geometry combine with optimal joinery to produce a simplicity of design which becomes extraodinary upon a second look. Each individual piece of wood is selected to enhance the overall design of the piece and work in harmony in its specific place. Every element and technique used in a piece is conscientiously organized even if it may appear outwardly simple.

My initial training was in 19th Century English Furniture and its restoration, where I learned the importance of Classical Proportion as well as intricate joinery and traditional techniques. I have since studied and become fluent in the styles of Danish Scandinavian Modern, Shaker, Art Deco, and Arts and Craft, and use these styles as inspiration in my artsitic vision. With a broad range of styles and techniques at my command, I pride myself on creating an ideal and unique aesthetic for any environment while staying true to the traditions and values of preceding masters of the craft.

Quality and efficiency throughout the creation process is the pride of my heritage and guides my work daily. I have been designing and building furniture since 1978, in an environmentally conscientious way long before "green" became a buzzword. Stylistically grounded in tradition, yet dynamic for modern tastes, my work is made to physically and aesthetically stand the test of time. In this way I strive to pay homage to the tree, which not only provides the beautiful wood for my life's work, but also gives the inspiration of hidden complexity and sturdy dependability. From the tree to the finished product, it is my highest aspiration that each piece I create will provide elegance, dependability, and relevance for generations to come

About Us

Charles and Karen Nielsen established Nordic Woodworks in 1978. We don't sell a "line" of furniture and we seldom make the same piece twice. We design and build pieces that can be handed down through the generations or, as in the case of built in pieces, enjoyed by many generations. We provide quality cabinetry and furniture at attainable prices.
