Charles was commissioned to build a reproduction of a 19th century ships mast for Historic Fort Snelling located in Minnesota.

The 85-foot-tall flagpole is a two part ships mast complete with trestle tree, shrouds and cross spars. The 4000lb douglas fir poles were found in northern Wisconsin and had to be turned to specifications.  Charlie built a 65 foot long lathe to handle the turning of the poles. The bottom mast section taper, ran for 43 ft starting at 17 1/4 inch diameter tapering down to 12 3/4 inch diameter, then changing to 7 ft  of 9 1/4 inch square. The top spar also had 7ft of square at 9 1/4 inch then tapered from 12 3/4 inch  diameter down to 4 inch diameter over 35 ft. .  The two square ends nestle side by side in the trestle tree assembly.
